Dear David,

Tonight was an emotional night. Everything was going fine, other than running on 2 hours of sleep from the night before. I gave Landon his bath and got him ready for bed. So far, so good! After putting Landon to bed, I went downstairs to hear Tyler bawling. She was at the computer and was listening to I am Already There by Lonestar. This song has really become a security blanket for Tyler. I sat down and had a little cry with her. She told me that an illustrator came to her school today. The illustrator was a boy and he drew pictures of mommies and daddies that were at the desert. She raised her hand and was dying to be the one student that was picked. She was heartbroken when he did not pick her. Later in the day she went to the library to see if they had the book to check out. She was informed that the book was not available yet. My heart broke for her. We decided that we would give you a a call. No luck, the base operator could never get through. I told Tyler that your phone must be broken. She was still upset, but decided she would feel better by sleeping in one of your t-shirts. Then she decided that she couldn't sleep in her room and asked if she could sleep with me. Now David, you know that is almost unheard of from Tyler. She loves to sleep in HER bed! She is better now, but would love to get a call from her Daddy.

I hope you enjoyed your huge package of goodies!!

All my love,

Your Loving Wife

  1. It's so hard on the kids! Even when they get older there are days that it hits them harder than others. I always told them it was okay to have those days. My thoughts are with you and unfortunately this is the down side of being a military family. I'm not sure what the ages it starts but next summer look into Operation Purple. Devon went the 1st yr they ahd it and it just happen to be at Hill. Does your base have an active youth center there? The kids found it helpful to go because there was support from the staff and the other kids - they didn't feel alone..........Jo

  6. It is so tough to see our kids hurting. I know that mine really miss their Daddy too. I do all that I can to take away the pain but... it's never enough. Only Daniel is enough.

I hope that David was able to call. How cool that you can call him yourself!!

What about buying a Flip video and sending it to David so that he could record short videos for the kids to watch? Daniel did that last time he was gone and it helped tremendously.

I hope that the days go by faster and are easier.
