Happy Friday! Are you participating in Friday's Military Spouse Fill-in? If not, the click here and join the partay!! Hope you have a WONDERFUL weekend!!
What is ONE thing you’d like civilians to understand about being a military family? There is no way that I could list just one thing! How about a good ole bullet list! I kind of like them!
- It is impossible to make plans ahead of time. Once that dreaded work phone goes off, all plans are put on hold. We have no clue what lies ahead of us in a month, 2 months, a year, etc.
- No dates are set in stone until it happens.
- There is a lot that we cannot tell due to OPSEC (Operation Security).
- Watching a movie or tv show about the military doesn't give the 100% picture of our lives. Just a glimpse, and the majority of the time they give a false impression. I know I have never been to the base commander's house for tea and sconces.
- Base Housing is not free, we actually pay for it. We just do not write a rent check every month. It comes out of our check, we never see the money.
- The phrase, Oh there is our Tax Money at Work. We pay taxes too!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
3. What indulgence could you give up for a year? Sweet Tea. I have done it several times before and I have lost weight. I am about to give it up. God Bless my Students!!
4. If you could be a winged animal, what would you be? A cardinal! They are the mascot of my favorite baseball team and they are not hunted (I don't want my husband eating me!). And a bonus, they are beautiful!
5. What is one question you’d like to see asked in a future MFF? How did you vision your future premilitary?
Haha, I love the comment about movies! When Chris said he was going to miss the dogs, I told him he should take Shecky, because in Crimson Tide the CAPT had his dog on the sub... and we all know that movies are just like real life ;)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good mistake :) Haha!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the middle of giving up sweet tea. I've started buying or making my own unsweetened iced tea and adding Splenda. I do miss sweet tea something fierce.
Loved you answer(s) to number one ... So true to all of it :) And I hope your mistake was a good one :) lol
ReplyDeleteHey Ashley! Thanks for sharing on my post! I was just talking to a friend and when I told her my husband was deploying again after being home a year and that he'd be gone for 400 days that it wasn't a big deal and that it could be worse... I really just wanted to be like "Are you kidding me!?!" I love your answer to #1 though, and good luck at giving sweet tea up! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with your answers for #1! I have never seen an episode of Army Wives, and there's a reason for that. The fake stuff in that show and the adultry I've heard is discussed in the show would piss me off... excuse my language.
ReplyDeleteHi there! I found your blog through Friday Fill-in. I totally agree with your answers for #1, I get kinda irritated when people say "Aww, but you get free housing and free medical, so it can't be that bad, can it?" *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI think your question for the Fill-ins would be awesome one, =).
It sounds like that mistake might've been a fun one. Hehe. =)
Good luck with the sweet tea!
AMEN on your number 1 answers! I've had people tell me that we get everything free so we must be living the good life ::SMH:: Absolutely not.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog earlier!
I love the no dates are set in stone! Good point! Before he left our family kept asking when he was going. I just said he leaves when he leaves geez! Of course now people are wanting homecoming dates and they have barely been gone two months!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with the sweet tea! I have given up soda but am still working on the tea.
Oh yeah! I totally agree with number one!!! I even have my parents (who have been in the military life for a million years) try to make plans with me for next year. Hello! I can't make plans that far out!! LOL!
ReplyDeleteAnd I do super duper love that we pay our own paychecks. It's pretty awesome. ;-)
