Did I do the right thing?

I was at Wal Mart this morning to pick up some art supplies for the kids to make a Welcome Home Banner for David.  I am minding my own business when I hear this lady (Walmart employee) yell at another employee.  I am really trying to ignore this confrontation.  The lade was so loud and going on about how she wasn't putting the cupcakes on the stand that she told her too and this poor lady is about to break down into tears.  My heart was breaking.  I really wanted to go give her a big hug.

I walked off, I didn't want the lady to feel even more embarrased about being yelled at in front of customers.  As I walked off, I got madder by the second.  I went up to a cashier and asked her if she could get a manager for me.  A few minutes later I was telling my story.  He thanked me for letting him know and he headed straight over to the bakery.

I am not one who goes and complains to a manager.  That poor woman needed someone to stand up for her.  I felt bad for telling on this woman who did the yelling.

I called my mom after I got in my car.  She reassured me that if she was yelling at her employees, then it isn't the first time.  And she could be yelling at customers too.

Why does it feel so bad to do the right thing?

  1. You shouldn't feel bad abt doing the RIGHT thing. You stood up for someone who couldn't - even if she did, do you think that the supervisor would stop? Bullies shouldn't be tolerated, some ppl aren't meant to be supervisors - its never wrong to ease someone's suffering - you should be proud of yourself- I am for you!

  2. I think you did the right thing! Not only should people not be so rude in general, but from the store manager's perspective, I wouldn't want my customers witnessing that kind of behavior in my store. Good job! : )

  3. I don't like confrontation either but I'm sure you did the right thing. If it was bad enough to get a manager, then the lady probably needs to be aware of how she was acting. Good for you for sticking up for her!

  4. You ABSOLUTELY did the right thing! The economy is such that if the employee is unwilling to not yell at their staff then they can surely find someone who would be grateful to have a job AND be a better boss.

  5. Yes, you did the right thing. That woman needs to be fired. You don't yell at employees and never in front of customers. At least rest assured that you are most likely not the first person to complain about her, but you may be the one he needed to hear to make the final decision to deal with her.

  6. You did the right thing FOR SURE. I get so ticked when I see superiors berating their employees in front of customers. That is extremely tacky and it puts customers in a really awkward situation, as you know! I'm glad you got the manager.

  7. Situations like this are always sticky but more than likely you did the right thing. I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure the right outcome ended up happening.
